LONDON DISTILLERS KENYA WINS CASE TO RECONNECT THEIR SEWER LINE TO THE EPZ MAIN SEWER!
London Distillers Kenya Ltd has been allowed to reconnect its sewer line to the Export Processing Zone main sewer line which had been disconnected last month in a dispute over emission of pollutants into the system.
The parties involved in the dispute including the Mavoko Water and Sewerage Company (Mawasco),County government of Machakos and the National Environmental Management Authority ( NEMA )were also ordered to conduct tests on the effluent from the factory for a period of five days beginning Saturday and come back to the court with verifiable data on October 28,2019 for direction.
The orders were given by Justice Oscar Angote of the Environment and Land court in Machakos.
There was an heated argument with County government lawyer Mr Bernard Mung’ata and the lawyer for the EPZ vehemently opposing LDK’s prayers for reconnection.
Mr. Tiego who represented LDK argued that his client had suffered loses amounting to Sh2 million a day for the last one month since the sewer line was disconnected and that the livelihoods of about 3000 people who depended on the factory were at risk.
